This landscape painting created from acrylic paint. The artwork’s main purpose is to describe animal extinction. But also demonstrate constant repetition with color, brush stroke, and value. Inspired not only by one artist, but by two Claude Monet and Vincent Van Gogh. Both artist demonstrate phenomenal skills in brushstroke and color. The landscape painting focuses on the spacing of the land. The intention of the dragon was for aesthetics, it does not deviate from the intentions of the work.

There is a lot to mention from the video. Things that were done in the beginning before the painting even started was the creation of the work and planning and drawings had to be done in order for me to come up with a finalization of the piece. The canvas had to be hand crafted in the workshop and then Gesso. Green, black and blue was used to start the base ground of the painting. Once that was done. I focused on the environment of the painting so that everything was detailed and then work was done onto the dragon after.

Techniques/Experimentation:
Ideas: In search for the dragon wing. Main focus of using a dragon in the artwork.
The first wing looks scary. Doesn't suit the forest dragon. The second wing is a bit better two colors that can be used. One can be green and a touch of yellow. Third wing its more focused on the environmental part. The wing represent a leaf. Other ideas: Having a dragon laying down with roots of trees coming out of its head. Also looking at a human boy. |
Artistic Inspiration/Cultural: |
I was inspired by Monet because of the setting and the way he focus his attention to the nature, the landscape and the haystacks. Making them stand out with color. The color red and also the hint of black provides the greatest degree of contrast to the painting. But also green and yellow are major colors to point out in the work, which I took into consideration to use in my painting. What I really inspire from this work in relations to my own is that there's repetition throughout the work. What the painting also inspire me to do was proportion with just the sizing or numbers with all the parts relate well with each other.
The second inspiration I took was from Vincent Van Gogh. Not just the landscape, but looking at the painting it's pretty addicting to look at and I wanted to incorporate that into my painting. That value of yellow and orange highlights the other parts of the painting. Both of the paintings have a repetition of colors and a great degree of contrasts to the painting. What I really like about the painting is the space / perspective of the painting. The area shows a volume of space with somewhat of a 3-D object on a flat surface. There is this great emphasis coming from the painting which is the haystack. To me that part catches my interest. That inspired me to add a object that will catch someones interest.
Rob Gonsalves is a Canadian artist who uses delicate optical illusion to transport his viewers far away, all the way into the world of magical realism. And that world is boundless and beautiful, with endless possibilities. The artist creates breathtaking visual explorations of imagination that encourage both children and adults to dare and think past the boundaries of everyday life and see what lies beyond the horizon.

Now the reason for these animals is due to the fact that they played a role on my artwork. I needed to figure out how an animal such as a lion lays down and how a reptile/amphibian skins look like.
"Current ecological knowledge indicates that large carnivores are necessary for the maintenance of biodiversity and ecosystem function. Human actions cannot fully replace the role of large carnivores. Additionally, the future of increasing human resource demands and changing climate will affect biodiversity and ecosystem resiliency. These facts, combined with the importance of resilient ecosystems, indicate that large carnivores and their habitats should be maintained and restored wherever possible."

Reflection: (Acrylic Painting)
My piece was inspired by not only Monet and Van Gogh, but also the animals that are shown above. They are dealing with a major issue that can be controlled if there was enough effort put into protecting animals throughout the world. The human society needs to open their eyes and see the damage that is being caused, there has been large declining number of carnivores three quarters of the world's big carnivores are in a decline.
After weeks of viewing the landscape painting. I came to a realization that the inspiration for this painting was not nearly close to the work. There wasn't enough from the painting that resembled any sort of inspiration from Monet or even Vincent Van Gogh. I decided that the magic realism was a concept that was widely focused in my painting that was created.
What it represents:
- Camouflage
- Green (Harmony) (Safety) (Environmental)
- Being unprotected
I wanted to have the dragon out in the open, but keep it blend in with the environment. Just because that's how most animals are now a days. hiding from the world or disappearing, because their habitat is getting disturbed.

Strengths- I really enjoy the landscape of the piece and the repetition of the color green.
- The bushes are well detailed and adds a great degree of contrast between the trees. - I also like the light to dark green ratio of the piece. |
Weakness- The trees could've been a little more detailed especially the ones in the front. Also the pod dead center of the painting I should have texture and value to it.
-The dragons body needs more emphasis, with scales, eyes, head and mouth. |
Act Questions:
1) Clearly, explain how you are able to identify the cause-effect relationships between your inspiration and its effect upon your artwork.
The colors and visible brushstrokes draws from Monet. But also the repetition of strokes draws from the artist Van Gogh and the artwork "Haystacks in Provence."
2) What is your overall approach (point of view) the author ( from your research) has regarding the topic of your inspiration?
3) What kind of generalizations and conclusions have you discovered about people, ideas cultures etc?
Color is an important aspect of life that can convey a message. Color and repetition offers many perspective and really changes the tone of the piece.
4) what was the central idea or theme of your inspirational research?
The theme for my inspiration is vibrate color choices and repetition of brushstrokes.
5) What kind of inferences (conclusions reached on the basis of evidence and reasoning) did you make while reading your research?
